Traveling during the summer months is a favorite pastime for many families across the US. Around 45% of Americans take vacations during the summer and for good reason. The summer months are warm, the weather is often pleasant across the country, and most children are out of school for the summer. For many families, taking advantage of nice weather and beautiful locations is a priority while on vacation. Not letting fitness routines fall by the wayside is also important for many. These two goals can actually be combined. Here are 3 ways to stay fit and get around while on vacation.

Bike Rides

Bikes are a great mode of transportation for people on vacation. The main appeal of bikes are that they can be used for almost any terrain and can be found in almost any location. There are many different types of bikes including ones that can be used in the city, ones that work for cruising around, mountain bikes, and much more. There are also bikes that have seats for children and that work for the entire family. Biking around a vacation spot is also a great way to burn calories and see the entire area at the same time. Most vacation spots also have plenty of bikes for rent.

Kayaks And Paddle Boards

Wherever there is a body of water nearby, it is almost guaranteed that kayaks and paddle boards are available. Either one allows vacationers to explore waterways while also burning calories. The amount of calories burned depends on height and weight but both activities can easily burn up to 200 calories. The amount of calories burned while paddle boarding is also dependent on wave heights. The higher the waves, the more calories burned.

Hang Gliding

When it comes to getting a view of a beautiful landscape from up above most people think of plane or helicopter rides. However, there are more active ways to get that breathtaking aerial view. Hang gliding isn't for everyone, but it's a great way to see the landscape while burning calories. Hanging gliding can burn up to 238 calories and hour for a person who weighs 150 pounds. Hang gliding is also a great way to cover long distances in a short amount of time. It's also a great arm workout!

Staying fit while on a summer vacation doesn't have to be a hassle. Biking, kayaking, paddle boarding, and hang gliding are all great activities that both help vacationers get around and burn calories at the same time.
